Château de Mirande sits in the rolling country of Southern Burgundy — five bedrooms in the main house, a three-bedroom gîte, and a private apartment, surrounded by meadows, vines and the slow tempo of village life. It is run, in the most literal sense, by hand. Guests come for a few days and leave knowing the region as well as the people who tend it.

In the spring of 2018, the Münch family left their working lives in Germany behind and began what they came to call, with a small smile, the Castle Project.
What was a neglected old house standing on much older fortified bones has, in the years since, become a working country house — slowly restored room by room, with a clear refusal to flatten its character. Benedikt lives on the estate and runs it day to day; guests are welcomed in the same spirit in which the house was discovered, at an unhurried pace.
The pleasure, he says, is in opening the doors.

Mâconnais — quietly the best of Burgundy.
Mirande sits between the great wine villages of the Mâconnais and the medieval bones of Cluny, once the largest church in Christendom. Beaune and its Hospices lie an hour north; the Beaujolais hills begin a few minutes south. The Saône valley spreads gently east.
Most days, the choice is simple: a vineyard cave, a market town, a long lunch, or one of our bicycles and a quiet road. The Région page lays out the places, the markets and the activities we send guests to, often.

The four seasons
There is no quiet month.
Each season offers something the others cannot. Summer is the meadow and the long table outside; autumn the vendange and woodsmoke; winter, snow on the urns and the estate to yourself; spring, the orchard and the first markets.
Vendange & woodsmoke
Harvest in the surrounding vines, mushrooms in the markets, the first fires in the great room. A favourite among returning guests.
The estate to yourself
The most private time of year. Reduced winter rates for longer stays; ideal for writers, photographers, and small private gatherings.
Orchard & first markets
Blossom in the orchard, the gardens coming back to life, and the first of the season's markets. A favourite window for early-spring weddings.
